how to stop distribution

how do i stop a distribution update for an app.
even though i uncheck box it keeps on asking to be updated?????????????
now that my updates notifier works it won't go away probably because of the distribution update for the app

Have you tried to lock/hold it's current version ( http://ubuntulinuxtipstricks.blogspot.com/2007/07/tip-lock-versions.html ) ?

Synaptic Package Manager has a feature where you can prevent a package from being upgraded.

Look for Package | Lock Version after selecting the package you do not want updated.
