I tested out Kubuntu on a USB stick for my Asus Aspire One. It actually runs smoothly, I'm guessing because I have 1 Gig of RAM. My question is how much space does Kubuntu take up after install and after I put in kubuntu-restricted-extras, w32codecs and that kind of stuff. The default apps will work fine for this net book as it is just a portable on the go thing and not my primary system. I ask because I only have 8gigs of hard drive space on a solid state drive. I'll only need about a gig for various files I might get and I can always just use a USB or flash drive for anything extra. I guess if it does take up too much space I can use the netbook remix but Kubuntu looks and runs beautifully on it and I'd like to use it if it is reasonable on the hard drive.

You'll be fine with 8GB. The default install is about 4-5ish I think, and Linux is pretty frugal about how much space new apps take up.

It's always good to leave a gig or so of space spare for temp files and such.
