I was editing a text file in Gedit when I hit a wrong key and the file vanished. I tried to reopen it and got the message that my file was already open in another Gedit window. How - Where do I find or get to this other window. ??

Thanks

Wheewww Thank you. I have a bad habit of not saving often enough and was sure two hours of work were gone.

Click on Edit --> Preferences --> Editor --> Autosave every 10 minutes (or adjust to the interval required).

Note that autosave only works on a previously saved file, i.e. open a new file, IMMEDIATELY save it as 'whatever.txt'. Every 10 minutes the updated file will be saved to the initial directory as 'whatever.txt~'
