Hi,
(On Xubuntu)
As sonn as I am using drag & drop so that to move one file from one folder that is on my disk to an another folder that is on my disk, the file is duplicate just if I were to move one "local" file to an USB Key.

Known behavior ?
Any thing I can do ?

Thanks a lots.

not really a fix - but you can hold down shift after clicking, 'click - drag - shift - drop'

hi,

Thanks for your reply.
I can as well cut & paste.
My concern is to find out if this behavior is the default one & if there is any setting that I can do.
I have been using many OS and this is the first time that I am facing this:
to drag & drop a file on the same disk turn to copy and paste the file instead of cut and paste it.
==========
On top of that the second user of this computer use to work on Mac & Pc

Thanks

Have you tried looking in the file manager preferences? I'm sure the setting can be changed. Alternatively you can right-click-drag files around, and you'll be given the option when dropping them of what you want to do (move, copy, or link). Just like on Windows.

By default dragging a file inside the same partition will move it, but if you drag it to another device, or another partition, it copy the file instead.

So even when you are drag&dropping the file inside the same disk, make sure that it's also inside the same partition.

(I don't remebber how Thunar does this, but at least with Nautilus dragging a file with middle mouse button gives you a menu where you can select if you want to copy, move or link the file)

My thunar moves files when in the same partition.

hi,
Thanks for all the replies.
What's mcduck describs is the behaviour I was expecting. On my computer, files are duplicated within the same partition,.

No problem, I am cutting and pasting.
