I'm from Poland (and dell poland does'nt support ubuntu - it sells no n series inspirons), but I would like to use dell lapop (they're durable), and I'm not advanced enough to buy it without any assuance that it will work.

So does anyone tried ibstalling ubuntu on inspiron 15 or 17 (without n)? Any problems?

I googled:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1075543

A site that I always check:
http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/dell.html

And then there is Ubuntu HCL: http://www.ubuntuhcl.org/

Installs without issue on a Dell Inspiron e1505. Wireless works with Ubuntu out of the box. The ATI proprietary drivers do not work in Jaunty 9.04 so the Radeon HD open source driver will allow Compiz to be enabled - that requires making it the default driver in the xorg.conf file.

On Dell Inspiron 1545 Ubtuntu 9.04 and Linux Mint worked 'out of the box'. Wireless connection was point & click and you're away!!

On my Inspiron 1525 Ubuntu 9.04 worked straight away, no issues at all. Wireless worked with no issues

Same here, except I had to reinstall my Broadcom drivers.

I use bluetooth for my mouse. Again, no problems at all :-)

Finally I get to be useful here!

I just installed jaunty 64 bit with no problems on a new Inspiron 17. Only thing is the sound seems weak, but it does work. Probably need to tweak settings/drivers. Video is 900x1600. I haven't checked mic yet but will soon as I need it for skype.

Insprion 1545 Kubuntu (important k) don't get it. Bugs. So many bugs. Ubuntu should be fine!
