Brand new Inspiron Mini 10, running 8.04.. I love it but the wireless card doesn't work as advertised.

Network manager can see wireless networks, even sometimes connect to my own, but that's about it. I've talked to Dell about it and they came up with nothing. So I'm turning to the experts.

Try connecting to the internet via wired ethernet and see if there are wireless driver updates. After running update manager, check System->Administration->Hardware Drivers for a better driver.

thanks pastalavista for the suggestion. I've already updated the system and there are no driver updates.

Network manager can see wireless networks, even sometimes connect to my own, but that's about it.

So you have an intermittent problem where it sometimes will connect to your router, but not always ?

I have the same netbook, (10v, 8.04), wireless card (Dell 1510 - Broadcom 432) and driver (wl 5.10.79.10).

I also have the same problem :-(

Mine never connects after boot, but after it informs me that it has disconnected, it will then connect after 1 or 2 retries.

It's very annoying.
I've written my experience here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1234714

your card is probably a very cheep knockoff.......Pick up a usb wlan from your computer shop ($22. usd) and solve your problem That has solved a lot of troubles I've run across.

What kind of network do you have?

open vs WEP vs WPA vs WPA2 etc, 802.11b/g/n,

It is slightly different than the Mini 9 wifi card, but the wl driver in the default 8.04 was a little slow, and occasionally failed to load the driver at boot.

No problems at all since installing 9.04 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport/Machines/Netbooks#Dell%20Mini%2010v
