Just want to say hi to everyone. How is it going this is my first post.

Ok, I got ubuntu set up and it works great. Even got 5.1 surround sound working correctly that is cool had a pain the butt time getting it to work in Suse.

Now, I installed Americas Army and for some reason there is no sound. Everything on my desktop sound wise works. Games it seems like are the only thing sound doesn't work with. I have been searching the forums for a while for a solution, but some of the stuff I found doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions?

Thanks for a great distro and good help all over the net it makes ubuntu enjoyable for most things.

You could try disabling system sounds and then see if the game sounds work? Do that under the preferences menu (i think?) under Sounds.

well I from reading the forums and talking in IRC it has been suggested to disable the sound server with killall esd and try. So I did that and still didn't work.

Did you try unselecting the system sounds check box from the menu yet? Try that first, logout then back in and your sounds should be disabled, but then try the game. If it still doesn't work try searching the forums for "multiple sounds" and see if one of those threads is useful.

I found something that works!!!!

install XMP form synaptic i believe it in the PLF repositries, as soon as I install it I got sound YAY! it worked for me, so let me know what happens... install the ALSA and ESD drivers for it too.

you may have to remove-reinstall once your reboot. cause you may loose the sound. happy gaming

I found this just cause i install rendom crap that i might think could be useful, and what do you know it just made it work, and i know this is a/my solution cause i tested it on a fresh install.
