my girlfriends computer (a sony vaio, 1.86ghz pentium, 500mb ram laptop from 2006) has stop recognizing the battery all together. She does not run ubuntu, but I do and know how resourceful everybody can be in these forums, so I was hoping for a little hardware advice.
When I go to power management, it says no battery connected, and as soon as you unplug it, it shuts off like you unplugged your tv. She says the computer was getting pretty hot just idle the past few days. Is the battery fried? Would it be worth my while to throw in the Ubuntu Live CD and see if there is a way to diagnose it?
