Hi, I have Kubuntu KDE 4.2 installed on a 80 GB maxtor hard drive. I want to create a new partition to install GeeXbox (linux media center operating system.) My problem is, I have installed KDE Partition Manager and Gparted, but neither have permission to create new partitions. (See attachments)
How can I create anew partition? It just needs to be a GB or so. (Yes, I have plenty of disk space available and yes, I have tried running both programs as root.

Thanks! :D

I'm no expert on this, but why don't you try with a LiveCD?

Is there a partitioning tool on the livecd?

i'm assuming there is. else use a different live CD that has one (knoppix, whatever ...)

as i said though, just an idea!

thanks anyway. By the way, I have solved the problem with something I should have thought of before: I ran Gee xBox as a live cd and found out I didn't like it. (so now I don't need to partition, but you can keep posting here for future use and to help others with the same problems):lolflag:
