I am a former Windows user and have gotten used to the fonts avialable for it and in some of my graphics I need those fonts. I've read there is a way to install ttf fonts and have tried through synaptic and the man pages to find out how it's done but don't have the very basic knowledge know what to look for. By the way I apologize to the moderator in Customization and Tips for trying to post in a "how to" thread.

I just copy them over from a windows partition to my .fonts directory. Someone else will have to tell how to take the time to find font packages.

Thanks bvc, before I posted I tried the search option on the above bar looking for posts that were made containing fonts and it came up with a number of them that were unrelated. After I made the post I tried the Yahoo search engine(becoming alittle googled out, although helpful, they seem to have an agenda which doesn't favour my searches). It came up with a number of sites that explained what I had to do. The funny thing is it also had results for the Ubuntu forum the Ubuntu forum search didn't come up with.

the windows core fonts package are called 'msttcorefonts' and as far as i know, it is available via apt-get if you have the ubuntu universe repositories enabled.
it provides:

Andale Mono
Arial
Comic Sans MS
Courier New
Georgia
Impact
Times New Roman
Trebuchet
Verdana
Webdings

alternately you can download the debian package here (http://packages.debian.org/unstable/x11/msttcorefonts).

or follow these complicated but effective instructions found here (http://corefonts.sourceforge.net/).

if you are looking for some specific font let me know, maybe i can send it to you.
