Hi,
i have dell mini 9 running jaunty. I noticed that i can activate these jaunty-proposed and jaunty-backports for updates. Should i as newbie do something like that or it can damage my system?

Noticed that there are newer Kernels...

Here are the descriptions of these two repositories from the Ubuntu Repository wiki (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu)

# "Pre-released Updates (hardy-proposed)". The testing area for updates. This repository is recommended only to those interested in helping to test updates and provide feedback.
# "Unsupported Updates (hardy-backports)". As the name states, these are unsupported versions of future packages which are still in development. Packages may contain new features, may introduce new interfaces, and have not been sufficiently tested to be included in the 'proposed' repository.

Unless you have a specific need, my recommendation would be to not enable them. If you do use them, get what you need and then disable them again.
