Poweredge RAM question

I just bought my first actual server, a Dell Poweredge 2650. My question is regarding memory, specifically if all three memory banks need to be filled in order to not get a POST error. I have ordered 4 sticks of 184-pin 512mb ECC-registered memory. I understand that memory has to be installed in pairs.

I have a poweredge 2800 with 2Gb of ram and there are two free memory slots and it runs fine
