I have Ubuntu 9.04 installed on my Toshiba NB100 netbook and have just purchased an external USB CD/DVD writer (made by CnM). It came with Windows drivers but nothing for Linux/Ubuntu (it works fine on Mac OS x 10.5). I can't get Ubuntu to recognise the device (I've tried both CD and DVD) - do I need to install some extra software/drivers?

I've since installed Ubuntu 9.04 on a partition on my larger Acer laptop and the CD writer works fine under Ubuntu so it would appear to be a problem with the Toshiba.

Has anyone out there had similar problems with external USB devices on a Tohiba NB100, and did you overcome them?
