I downloaded the iNiZe icon set from here (http://nize2ace.deviantart.com/art/iNiZe-24514011), after I heard about it on lifehacker, but it never shows up in the Appearance manager after I put it in /home/john/.icons

I think I have to change some folders around to make it work, anyone know how? I guess it's a matter of making a "windows" icon set play nice with ubuntu.

You guys can download it yourselves and mess around with it.

Much Appreciated, and btw it's the coolest icon theme I have ever seen :)

System -> Preferences -> Appearance

To install your new theme/icon, highlight custom by clicking the custom box (top left) then click install (bottom right). This will open up a directory so just navigate to where ever you downloaded your file.

You will need to choose the file that was created when you extracted the original downloaded file. Once you’ve selected it, it will install and you should have new icons.

it's not a package after I extract the zip, it's a folder with subfolders and png files in those subfolders.

Isn't that usually the case when installing icons? I always just put iconset folders in .icons

I am wondering the exact same thing. I have a .tar.gz file that I extracted and it has a folder with icons in it as well as more folders, just like all the other folders in usr/share/icons, but when I put it there I still can't select it in System/Preferences/Appearance when I try to customize my theme

I don't think this makes a difference, but have you to tried putting the folder in /home/[user]/.icons ?

you might be able to just drag the tar.gz into the Appearance manager, like you are adding a theme package.

Anyone thought about my query though?

thats a windows icon set, not setup to work in linux.

really? I figured png files worked either way, there was just a different way I could install them...

yes, you can use the png's as you like, but it is not a icon set that works in linux. if you look in your /usr/share/icons you can see how linux icon theme is setup & the icons have to have certain names to be recognized.
