Just had a thought. I have installed vsftpd, I need to be able to test this externally.

If I was to install a php web based ftp script on some remote webspace I have, and then enter my IP Address issued by my ISP, if this works does this mean it is working from outside the network?

This is proof that it works. This is what I love about Open Source, ok you need to tinker, but the rewards outweigh the hard times and when your done you have learnt another valuable skill.
