I have just installed the distro of Linux, Hardy Heron, and things have been going great! I have only one problem however, this was a same problem with Windows Vista: Connecting to a Samsung TV through HDMI. On Vista, I had an Intel Driver that I found after intensive searching, and now I'm not sure what to do for Linux. The driver CD that came with my laptop seems to only work on Windows. I used to plug my laptop into the TV, and then through the Intel driver's settings manager, I marked the setting to display through another monitor (the TV).

The graphics card is an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD

Any ideas? Thank you very much in advance.

Linux is brilliant so far on my first day btw; Glad to have switched!

Same problem

I have an Inspiron 1525 with Karmic installed and I have HDMI video out but not audio... This problem was the same in Jaunty.

Same problem for me also with Jaunty and karmic, in fact I am fairly sure I have never managed to get HDMI sound working on any of the last 4 Ubuntu releases.

Some of the biggest issues we have as Linux users to convert ppl away from windows is outlined right here - simple functions that never really work properly and usually take a whole hat load of fixing/updates etc that an average user would not know to do.

In any case has anyone figured out the issue with the HDMI audio output? If so please let us know :)
