I am new to Linux and have installed Ubuntu 9.04 on a Compaq N110.

I have 2 problems :-

1 - The display will only display 880x600. xorg.conf defaults to the vesa driver. The chipset is ATI rage. I have tried various things, including
dpkg-reconfigure, without success.

2 - I cannot get a plugin mouse to work only the touchpad.
There is nothing for this in the xorg.conf.

I have spent some time trying to sort this out but I am not sure where to go next.

Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Any help would be much appreciated.
