Not sure whether to post this here or in the resolution center.
But I would like speak about the issue of animated avatars.
I thought that this issue has been dealt with, and therefore not allowed. See reference http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=1741535
I would like some clarity on the issue. Are only normal users not allowed to have animated avatars, or is everyone not allowed? Do all(both normal and staff) have to abide by the CoC?
I see that some of staff have an animated avatar, I can only name one so far while I'm sure there's more staff members; bodhi.zaren.
Thanks in advanced for clarity provided on this issue.
:) Have a good day

I think only mods (they like to replace the M with a G in that word) are allowed to have those animated avatars.
It's also obvious that we will both get an infraction (at the very least) for these 2 posts we just made here.
Come on mod who's reading this, give me an infraction for not doing anything yet again!

From the Ubuntu Forums FAQ page
The staff of the forums are allowed use of animated images etc as a perk since they are volunteers and receive no payment or other renumeration for their time, efforts and services here.
Regular forum members with animated images for avatars that predate the 2005 ban are granted an exemption, however. Should they change the avatar they will loose said exemption.

Thank you for your reply and time. :) I didn't know that.
EDIT: Actually it doesn't say anything about the staff using animated avatars as a perk
Why can't I use an animated gif as my avatar?
In the past (up to sometime near the end of 2005) users were allowed to use animated gifs as avatars. This ended when there was a sudden wave of really distracting and obnoxious flashing, gaudy avatars. (Honestly, can you concentrate on information when looking at animated avatars like these (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=1741535#post1741535)?) Rather than make a long list of what is an isn't acceptable for animated avatar usage and then forcing the staff to monitor and police their use it was decided that they would be banned altogether. Those users who had appropriate animated avatars at the time were allowed to keep them and so you may see a small number of them floating around the forums. If/when those users decide to change their avatars they will not be allowed to replace the current animated gifs with another animated avatar but will have to choose an regular non-moving picture like the rest of us.

My understanding is that section of the FAQ on images in signature is used to address the animated images for staff, it was limited to signature, however. At some point avatars were included under the same umbrella.

Staff (mods and admins) are allowed a few perks. animated avatars, slightly larger avatars, and images in the sig.
Hmm ... There may be others, but if I told you I would have to kill you :lolflag:

Thanks for giving me more understanding. I understand that staff are allowed a few perks, since they do so much to try to keep things in order.

Watch out! Mario might move half a step from the top of the ladder at the bottom right, and then jump off to the right, bypassing the move alluded to.

You know, animated avatars don't exactly help my opinion of Joeb454 people who use them.
But seriously, animated avatars are annoying.

Banning users from having them because there annoying and distracting and then allowing moderators or staff the option just smacks of hypocrisy.

You need to control your subordinate staff members. You ARE an admin, after all.

Probably for the best. You'd be soft on trolling.

Should I report this thread for being at risk of becoming silly? Or are the others who are following the discussion getting something from it?

Joeb454 will probably just close it and make a snide comment when I can't respond.

Ok you caught me - I'm leaving it open for now, though we really should get back on topic!
