I'm trying to find the complete list of members but all I could get is members who are online.
(at http://ubuntuforums.org/online.php)
It would be really helpful if someone could point where I can get the complete list of members. I see that the Ubuntu statistics at the bottom of the forum page says :
Members: 883,375, Active Members: 61,997
Isn't there a search facility to look at the members list? or atleast if I could get the active members list ?

That would be a very, very long list. Is there something you're trying to do that can't be accomplished by searching for a certain username?

EDavidBurg,
I'm a Ph.D student working on social network analysis. I would atleast require the active members list. I understand it is a big list. But it would give a complete picture of whats happening in the forum.
Is there someway I could search for the active members atleast?
Thank you for the reply.

I don't think there's any way to get such a list. I've certainly not noticed a way to get one.
I think the online members list is the closest you would get to something you want/need.

And I don't think it should be released. No offense but I can see all new spam coming my way

A majority of the open source projects' forums have this facility of listing all members and providing a search engine to search.sort members. I'm surprised that Ubuntu does not have one.

Our servers are so overloaded as it is, I think indexing 880,000 members would make them explode.

Is there some indirect way of accessing the data. For example, go in to each social group, then collect the members under each group?
Wondering if every member has to be a part of a social group?

+1 on the privacy concerns. I get enough spam as it is, and the occasional spam from someone with a mailing list based on email addresses that have been harvested from the forums and/or launchpad.

I've seen a "Members List" link on almost every vBulletin forum I've been on, so I always assumed it was a default feature. Was it originally there but taken down as the member count grew?

+2 (your assuming that spam may be the only motive??)
I would suggest the forum deny the release of forum members names, based on the number of individuals and organizations that may find that information (shall we say) beneficial.

Firstly this forum is NOT Ubuntu. This forum provides support for the ubuntu community.
Under the Users setting console thingy there is an option to disable if your online status is even visible so this although the most accurate you are going to get isn't very accurate.
I am even questioning the validity of this request I personally would not like my information just given to a PHD student.
Just my 2cents. (Even if the administrators have the power to give this info I would request they don't)

As mentioned above - I haven't seen any list for this (not even in the admin options I have access to).
With regards to email addresses being harvested from the forums, you don't have to have your email address public. If you set this option only staff are able to view it, though 99.99% of the time we never need to access the page that would show it.

You could just write a script that queries the active member list every 5 minutes or whatever and then add the names you don't have already to a list. If you run it for about a week, you could actually get a much more accurate idea of forum activity than just the all time members list.

unfortunately the administrators have disabled it.

the OP doesn't seem to be to forth coming with any of his personal info, so why should the forums supply the members persoanl info to him.

It's not "personal info"... he's asking for usernames.

I exist. I am all the list you will ever need >.>
It's certainly odd that the function has been turned off. I do agree with the people with spam concerns though, and it is most likely disabled for that very reason.
