I have an Inspiron e1505 Running Jaunty Jackalope (9.04). My volume controls built into Ubuntu do not work. I can move the slider up and down but I do not have any change in volume. I have external speakers plugged in and that is currently the only way I can control the volume. I also cannot change the system volume. I have my sound profile set to not make sound at all, but I still get system beeps.
I don't know if this is just a driver issue, but I'd appreciate any help!
Thanks

I dont understand a thing. You say , "ı can move the slider up and down" ... So do you push the Fn button and then move the slider up and down ...?

The sound control icon is what I meant. It is basically useless.

Right click on the icon and select Preferences. You may be able to make changes there to the channel that the icon controls, eg Master, Master Mono, PCM, etc etc, and also the device that it controls, in order to get back the sort of control that you expect and want.
