How do I change a thread prefix, once my issue has been resolved, to solved? Just something I'd like to do to clean up my my share of threads.

Go to first post > edit > advanced > type SOLVED in front of thread title > save.

Oh, so you have to change the thread title? There isn't a prefix? Ok then, thanks.

That only changed the name of the post, not the actual thread.

So how do I change the actual thread title? Am I missing something?

There used to be a button to mark it as solved, which was disabled (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1044714).

Editing the title works, or adding a "solved" tag to the thread, but the former will only show up in the forum display if a moderator edits it. Adding a tag is probably the best way.

The problem is I do not see a way to edit the prefixes after a thread is started.

So should I just add a tag like [ SOLVED ] and then a moderator will come and change the title?

You should edit the title of the thread yourself. You can do this in several ways.

1. If you are viewing the forums, where the thread is listed, doubble click the title and you may edit it.

2. If you are viewing the thread Thread tools -> edit thread -> change the title.

The title will be displayed with a [Solved] in it , but posts in the thread itself will not be changed.

To show you, I will edit the title for you , in thread tools.

You can then see how it looks.

Actually, I don't see a 'Edit Thread' option here in Thread Tools. I'm guessing you were able to do that being an Administrator/Moderator.
Also, editing thread title by clicking the thread while viewing forums only works for some time.

As non-staff you can only edit threads you started.

I just tried on a thread I started. There's no "edit thread" button anywhere, and trying to edit the OP does not allow me to change the title. I think you've been staff so long you've forgotten what it's like to be a lowly plebe. :)

I can confirm that there does not appear to be any "Edit Thread" options for normal users, even within their own threads.

That is a distinct possibility.

If you started a thread , no your first post, hit the http://ubuntuforums.org/images/buttons/edit.gif button -> go advanced young Jedi -> you should then be able to edit the title to add [Solved]

Sorry but I tried that already and as you can see all it changed was the first post. It is now Solved prefix [SOLVED] (instead of [Solved]). I also tried the first two ways you initially suggested, neither of which worked for me. Any other way to change the thread title?

No, that is the way it works.

There is a plug in to fix that , but the plug in caused problems with the database, so that is as good as it gets.

Once a stable plug in is available we will probably use it as [Solved] is both helpful and popular.

Okay, I guess I'll just add a tag. Is typing [SOLVED] the best or does it not really matter? (spelling wise I mean. FE- solved, SOLVED, [Solved], etc...)

As you wish =)

I can confirm what others have mentioned here. Changing title by hitting edit only changes first post and not thread title. I tried that just a couple hours ago with one of my threads. Second, there is not Edit Thread option for normal users.

I can say that this is the solution for me

Really - until there is a plugin which works and we can use something to mark threads as solved then please use Tags - they can be searched with some certainty - the rest of the search is somewhat slack ;)

Thank you all for the clarification. [solved] tags it is.

I searched for solved in tags and found this thread ;)
