I've noticed that when one person posts something in a thread that is bad, the whole thread ends up getting locked. This rather spoils the conversation for everyone. Wouldn't it be better if the bad posts were just removed, so that everyone could get on with the conversation?

When possible, that is what we do, especially in support categories/threads. Sometimes either it would be complicated to fix a thread or the thread isn't vital to the primary function of our forums (i.e. not directly support related) so we make the decision to conserve our human time resources for more important matters.
I understand the desire. Sometimes reality forces us to adjust our actions and expectations. That's what happens here.

If you would like a thread closure reviewed please use the resolution center.
Be sure to justify why you think the thread should be re-opened.
Of course polite, well justified, reasonable requests are more likely to be honored then coming to the resolution center with guns blazing =)
