View Full Version : Can Wine run without Windows on the Hard Drive?

I use Wine and Wine Doors to use Windows programs on Ubuntu. Recently I took Windows off of my laptop so now I only run Ubuntu :D. When I had Windows on my hard drive Wine worked fine but now, with Windows uninstalled, only the simplest Windows programs will run (ex. notepad). I was wondering if Wine can run without Windows on the Hard Drive (does it depend on Windows's system files?) and if so how can I do that. Also when I use Wine Doors to try and install new programs it doesn't show any available programs.

Any help would be appreciated.

As far as I know, Wine itself doesn't need Windows to be present on your system.

I got it fixed! I fixed both problems by upgrading from Wine 1.0.1 to Wine 1.1.26
