View Full Version : [ubuntu] Hardware guru sought for new PC advice

Of all you helpful people out there (ok, I'll stop brown-nosing soon ;) ), are there any hardware/compatibility specialists who'd be able to help me put together a new PC that will work well with Ubuntu? I'm going to have to get a new machine in the next few weeks and, to be honest, going through the huge sticky thread listing compatible hardware is going to take forever for someone who doesn't know that much about the kind of hardware that's Ubuntu-friendly... call me lazy if you will, but if anyone is good at this sort of thing and able to help, I'd be very grateful, either general info on what's good and what's not, or specific components from a local shop's URL. I'm mainly looking for the "normal" sort of components (motherboard, cpu, memory, video card, sound card) rather than exotic webcams and the like.

I too would like to see a response to this question. After trying Ubuntu and other flavors of Linux with less than spectacular success on other computers, I'd like to build a computer specifically designed to run Linux with no compromises.
