I`ve been trying to install ubuntu on my girlfriend`s laptop computer for about a week now, and there seems to be a problem with her video card - its a VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP.
When the OS starts its on a 1600x1200 resolution which only half fits the screen, and when you try to change it the whole thing gets messed up. I tried to find drivers for it but I had no luck with that either - does anyone know how this can be fixed and is it actually possible to use Ubuntu on that machine? (Mandriva did well with the video, but other debian-based distributions had the same bug)

I have installed ubuntu on 4-5 computers and so far there were no problems like this. I just spent 3 hours browsing the internet to find a working video driver with no luck. Im beginning to think that it just wont work on that computer.
