View Full Version : [ubuntu] Asus P5N7A-VM - need help getting sound to work properly

Hello.

I have just set up Ubuntu (Jaunty) on a PC using the Asus P5N7A-VM MoBo.
My intention is to use it as a media centre with the excellent XBMC, using the SPDIF output for sound. This MoBo uses the Realtek ALC1200 sound chip.

I updated my ALSA drivers to the latest version (1.0.20) and everything seemed to work. When I tested the sound I heard the "beeeeeep" when I selectd the ALSA Digital Output as the method. Sound also works fine in XBMC. The UBUNTU start-up noise didn't play, but I figured what the hey...

Then, after a few days, the sound stopped working. XBMC still puts out sound when playing a movie, but the system sounds and sound tests do not work.

I tried to reinstall my ALSA drivers.
I double checked that none of the digital outputs were muted.

Would installing a random bit of software break my sound?

Do any of you have any tips as to how I might get my sound working again?

Thanks,
Dan
