I was trying to help someone in this thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1222347
But as you can see, it was closed with the reason:
We don't support circumventing the rules.
I'm interested to know more about it, so it would not happen again.
What do I or paintandswim09 did wrong?
I read the rules:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=885580
and I was unable to see the fault. or maybe my english is not that good?
Thank you!

but I want to see if it's possible to set up a (secret) router- the school frowns upon personal wireless because of computer and network security liability issues,
The rules that the school have setup. We don't allow threads circumventing other organisations rules.
Rather than read the forums do's and don'ts look at the CoC (http://ubuntuforums.org/index.php?page=policy) - it would have been closed with relation to that.

I've had a quick look at the thread in question. About the only thing I can add is this: it might have been different if it was about learning how your own gear works. In other situations it's a good idea to co-operate with the "owner" of the network, otherwise they could mistakenly believe you to be up to mischief.
