Do a checksum on the .iso and make sure you burn it as a disk image at no more than 4x.

Is there really a problem with burning the disk fast? I have a similar problem to
Blackhawk's while trying to install Kubuntu 8.10 (However, with mine, the installer vanishes after half a second and the livecd desktop loads.)
I really want to have Kubuntu when the new version of KDE comes out!!

yes there can be a problem because burning an image to CD/DVD is not the same as burning data or multimedia files to a CD/DVD. We all don't say burn it at the slowest possible speed because we want you to wait longer for the disk to finish.

Well, I might have solved BlackHawk's problem.
Download the text-based installer HERE (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/downloadmirrors#mirrors)
It ran great and fixed all three of my computers- everyone had its own problem; but basically none of them would install right.

LOL (Lots of luck,)
