I would like to setup a Ubuntu Server ether with lamp or with Oracle, is is ok to have Oracle installed and use MySLQ for one type of data and Oracle for another (more or less in order of importance) ]

Im a huge nube with servers and linux ingeneral, and would like to first install ubuntu to run intuitivly as my DNS server with forwarding the domain from GoDaddy.com lol BTTF HA Funny,

The DNS will reguardlessly need to be forwarded to me IP address the nice lady at GODDY say. and so Ill need a LAMP server setup?

My situation is that I would like to have the ability to establish a merchant account, of my own, without paying a gateway or get PCI-DSS certified I looked it up and its a long process looks verry involved for a small business however not so much, any one else have experance? thanks oh i would rather not use another gateway like i say however with the terms or the corprate cut throat -ness of America it is difficult to say wether I will recive help, I am posting this out of shear will, It will not supprise me if you just reasurch the idea and leave the messange (perhaps not without insuring he is throughly trod)

{{{{{[[[[[[What Im trying to DO: Setup a little server of my verry own and clap my heals together loudly while insuring it hosts my web store, and Sets aside moneys for my reasurch for a larger and better server, and earn money to move back to japan.]]]]]}}}m:D

any help Will Be Appreaceated

Thanks a bunch

I understand your situation, but I'm still not sure what you need help on.

Getting LAMP setup on Ubuntu is insanely simple, just install php/apache/mysql, done.

As to running a store on a home server, that is a little more difficult. Are you sure you don't just want to leave it on your godaddy account? Its the certificate that is going to be a little bit of a pain.

If you want to use Oracle then I'd go with an OS that they support, for example Red Hat.
If you don't want to pay then try CentOS which is Red Hat without the branding.

yes I realize the certificate is going to be the most difficult part, It will require jumping through hoops for a credit card processing certified secure server or just go through a gateway (what certificate were you refereeing to ) the pci-dss compliance it a little more simple with just a self questioneer.

The simple server certificate are you reffering to IIs in the case of mictosoft? What types of certificate does any-one know about- again I need and have to call on all your great genious minds and for the shiny infos. please assist any who may possable have a similar setup, This is my 5th ubunyu compleate install, Im not a networking intence man, I will however do what I can to help specify if asked (reasurch) I will also return a favor, and I will try to keep an open mind (Thanks for your previous anwsers)

Currently im installing Apatche unless there is a prefered server type, and I was planing to , heven forbid use google checkout for now, lol, however....I would much rather utilize a streamlined shopping cart although google % per charge is reasonable at Half that of paypal wow. I am still looking into getting a SSL and a TTl certificate for now... and obtaining a Self questioneer from PCI-DSS and PIN Complience,

Does anyone else have expearaness with this simmalarity as setting a server up your all experts in my book, It would be soo nice if I could talk to someone who Knows what is needed to get approval from Visa. thanks in advance.. for all your time

Ok I think I understand where you were unclear.

The Godaddy DNS name for my account is STOLLC.com and it should be not transfered , rather pointed to a IP address on my local server for the purpious of keeping it secure and then mirrored on brinkster. N1.Brinkster.com and N1.Brinkster.com

The things I dont know: How to set up Ubuntu to hold my files-point my files to the Godady
DNS and vice versa. There has got to be an easier way to do this with ubuntu on my local machine, am I right in that assesment>? I would really rather install a dedicated server on my local machine and then use the brinkster windows server as a backup mirror in the event I do server maintenance and--san (The Curious godd Forbids) I accidentally FUBAR My machine, playing around and installing other applications.

Please I really dont know where to start here;
Please tell me what you think I really would like to start attempting this soon. and work through the night or week or however. to accomplish this. I need the experience. And the income from the website will also help :) 4sug

thanks for any who read this
