You think you're so smart for running Arch, Gentoo, or Sid-Experimental? Maybe you think you're geek enough for setting up Linux From Scratch and using it as your regular distro. Well, none of you are prepared for this. This distro was created for people who dream in Assembly Code. I present to you HML (http://hannahmontana.sourceforge.net/Site/Home.html).

Looks like Linux and the Penguin is about to be invaded by a horde of raving fanatics!!
TWEENIES!!!!!!!
http://hannahmontana.sourceforge.net/
That's right! Hanna Montana branded Kubuntu install!!
To be honest I'd never thought of using a Branded OS as advertising (i know this is a FAN made thing not official!) Well I know you can get themes FOR an OS. Not a fully themed marketing OS...
This might be a good thing..
I can't wait to see the next big Sci-Fi movie releasing a fully themed OS to tie in with a movie release.... ^_^
Well you have been warned of the impending tweenie invasion..... lol!!!

I was thinking of buying one of those wifi antennas made from a Pringles can (I have no hope of making one myself). They're also known as "cantennas", as it's a cross between "can" and "antenna".
I came across one on Ebay with a picture of Miley Cyrus on it - it was called a "Hannah Montanna Cantenna".
I saw another one with a picture of the US President - it was called "the Yes We Cantenna".

many of them do get over it, and will actually continue using the vanilla.
and if some of them don't, just let them be.
this is isn't the first time where users has come up with a desktop that is being inspired and attributed to varieties of popular culture.
can the penguin survive?.. Yes, it may even feed on it. :)

OMG!! Enough with the run-on, zero-punctuation sentences already!!
For those of you who are reading this and do not know what a Operating System is let me explain a Operating System is basically what turn a computer from a useless piece of metal and wires in to a usable workable system with out it you computer could not do anything so HML is like BSD Windows and Mac OS X for more info see the About page
don`t you hate looking around the internet to find software like on Windows and Mac OS X not on Hannah Montana Linux well you can do it like that if you wanted to but on Hannah Montana Linux you have a Package manager so you can type in what you want or just browse then just check mark and click apply now is`t that nice also you have about 50,000 pieces of free software and a lot more software that cost money plus you can use Windows software if you install wine .

The swirls aren't so bad (especially in blue.. take a look at CentOS 5.4 default background.. not too bad), but I think the Disney logo will give the impression it's just a toy.
My daughter will love this. She would also love the Asus but fat chance of her getting one! :lolflag:

It gets worse. Over Use of Capitals and just general stupidity so you could say its poorly written
So your Probably Wondering what`s the difference between Hannah Montana Linux and Windows
and Mac OS X well here are some of the differences .
one : Hannah Montana Linux can`t get viruses so you could say its virus proof
two : Hannah Montana Linux is Free as in you do not have to pay for it and that you can change anything you don`t like the code is all open so its called open source
three : don`t you hate looking around the internet to find software like on Windows and Mac OS X
not on Hannah Montana Linux well you can do it like that if you wanted to but on

On a more serious note.. is this a joke?
Actually, is there any indication that this is anything reputable? Think about it, what's stopping somebody from setting it up with a backdoor/keylogger/etc. built in, packaged and slap on something that makes people want to download and install it?
Now, if it was just a KDE theme, that's another thing. Understand why they are doing it this way but looks kinda shady so far. Let's see how long before Disney shuts it down.

It looks to me as though someone has repackaged Ubuntu to get tweens into Linux, complete with terrible writing as pointed out by RD1 and bitf.
If it works, then cool. If not, it still seems to be the most genuine effort from the Linux community to "hook em while they're young".
That, or a ploy from the Microsoft offices to smear Linux's name in the mud. But that goes for everything anti-Linux. :P

I also was going to comment on the poor writing and punctuation of the web page itself but was beaten to it. To me this looks nothing more like a joke. If it is something that's going to be taken seriously, a complete site revamp is in order, especially with the spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Sorry to be so harsh, but I can't take anything seriously if there is a poor implementation of basic spelling and grammar skills.

This might be harmless fun if it wasn't for the "song (http://hannahmontana.sourceforge.net/Site/Song.html)". Someone connected to the distribution wrote some new lyrics for an HM tune. This is clearly meant to increase the appeal.
Take a look and you will find this;
Yeah you get to be a Windows loser
But big time when you rm -rf *
So curious kids find that little easter egg and try it out, wiping the home directory. Some idiot is having a good laugh. This thing is not good for Linux.

I don't see the problem with it. I use it as my main OS, and it hasn't shown me any problems. In fact, I'd say that it's artwork is on par with that of Fedora's, and that in itself gives it that extra push that makes it better than any other Unix-like OS that I've ever tried.

Try Edubuntu distro with the Glubble add on for firefox. It locks down the web browser for kids only letting them browse pre approved websites.
Then you could build or find an HM theme if you must!!

Thanks for the fast response(s). So does it matter if I pick a standard PC iso, or should I look for something specifically aimed towards netbooks? I just want everything to work out of the box, i.e. web cam, and all of the other features, cause my sister will call my complaining about "why didn't I put windows on it" if it starts actin up, lol. Silly! What's next? Vampire Linux for the Twilight retards?
I love Twilight! LOL..
Wonder if ther is a Goth Linux Distro.. Would be no need for it as there are already many themes that easily do this.

Look at it this way Dill...children that use Linux will grow up to be adults that use Linux, naturally they will teach their children Linux. I believe we all share the same goal as far as spreading the word about Linux and trying to get more people to understand that they dont have to pay for software.
Spreading Linux is fine and dandy until you cross the line into copyright infringement and trademark violation, which HMLinux clearly has.
