...and also one of the hardest.
Tribes Series, very unfortunately I discovered it only today.:(
So does tribes (especially tribes vengeance) work well in wine?
Also any surviving servers for multiplayer,
If not any similar games (aerial fps) with surviving servers?
Please feedback info!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also discovered Tribes today, thanks to another post here. It's downloading as I type. :D
*EDIT*
This is the link for anyone who may want to download the (now free) Tribes 2 game. I think it runs on Linux, right?

There *was* a native linux client once but I haven't been able to find it in years. Also they never released it for free unlike the windows version so I don't think it's legal anyways. I haven't played the windows version in about a year since the official vivendi servers shut down but at that time it ran good enough that I *almost* would have given it a platinum rating on winehq. The only flaw that I ever found was the intro movie often caused tribes2 to crash when launching but turning off the option to play the intro in the settings would bypass the problem. Of course once past the intro it worked perfectly.

Did some poking around and unfortunately the new tribesnext patch to bypass the lack of authentication servers crashes horribly with wine. Using the version that attempts to connect to the now defunct servers works just fine (except for the lack of authentication). As far as I can tell there isn't any real workaround to this short of connecting to the online servers manually via IP address. Too bad, I'd love to start playing it again.

Tuxgames once sold Tribes2 : http://www.tuxgames.com/details.cgi?&gameref=54
But as Loki is gone there is none to get it from.

Also that version uses the same authentication system the windows version uses which means the only way to play online is by inputting IP addresses manually since the official authentication servers have been shut down. Since tribes2 wines flawlessly I'm not considered with the fact it's not native (though I'd prefer the native version), I'm concerned that I can no longer play online.

Eh What?!
I've already done 15 hours of play.
Just download the main game and latest patch from tribesnext.com
Problem is there is some issues with wine so you have to play it on windows or else install into a windows system, create an account. Install on linux in wine and login and play.
Also check out Tribes REVENGEANCE.

Tribesnext patches tribes2 to work without using the official authentication online servers (which have been taken offline by vivendi). There is a native linux client of tribes2 but tribesnext will not work with it. Tribes2 wines flawlessly however installing the most current version of the tribesnext patch causes tribes2 to crash under wine so you can't even try to login (known issue according to tribesnext). Since I do not own a copy of windows installing/playing it that way is not an option for me. What all this comes down to is you can not currently play tribes2 online under linux except by connecting manually using a game servers IP address (which is more hassle then I'm willing to go through).
