Just wondering if there are any MMORPGs (Not limited to linux) that have either no PVP or PVP that requires you to go to an NPC to be whisked away to a special area (IE: You can't freely enter a PVP area unless you talk to this NPC.)

I've already tried Asda Story, Angels Online as well as Wonderland Online.

side-scrolling and browser MMORPGs are not accepted. They also have to be free of course.

Wizard 101?

I was like, "Hmm," before I saw the "Buy Wizard 101" part.

There's a free "Trial that never ends!" that's quite limiting.

How limiting? Not that it matters, since I don't likes the look of it.

Honestly, you aren't going to find a quality mmorpg for free. If anything, I suggest you buy world of warcraft and just play on free private servers. Since they're free, though, they don't have perfect server uptime etc.

No PVP = Second Life to a large degree. There are sims where they have combat systems in place, but theres so much of SL and so many non combat roleplay areas you can spend a long time there before even bumping into a combat sim.

Lists of MMO's can be found as follows :

My blogs MMO list : http://naiux.wordpress.com/linux-mmorpgs/

I went through a stint for a while where I was mmorpg hopping and came across 5-10 decent to good games. If you google search for "top 100 mmorpgs" you should find a bunch. A friend of mine is very into Shaiya, and I've played a few oriental style games...although their names escape me. Also, if you have the coordination and are willing to give a game a shot--travian.us has an awesome time based strategy game. I was borderling addicted, haha. Happy Hunting!:)

Guild Wars?

huh? even the name smells PvP :D
BTW, Plainshift is simply the best RP mmorpg I have ever played. The game maybe crippled and not complete but people playing it knows how to RP.

I'd say Mabinogi. Really awesome game, only PvP I know is white knight vs black knight (that's an option, though) and the arena, but you can also choose to go in it. Or you can wait for Mabinogi: Heroes to come to U.S. God I wanna play that game soooo much :D

I played Mabinogi once. Got killed immediately by an aggro boss near a cemetery that has a very wide aggro range. Needless to say, I was pissed that there were even monsters in the starting town.

Could give Runes of Magic a try. It is basically a WoW clone, but it does it well. There is no pvp at the moment unless you go onto the PVP server. I currently play it, but haven't tried playing it under Wine yet. Not sure if it would work as I have heard mixed reviews. http://us.runesofmagic.com/us/index.html is the website. Is free to play, only downside is if you want a perma mount you have to buy it from the cash shop, or you can rent them from an NPC(not perma).

People were PVP'ing randomly once in Reni Server in Runes of Magic, which is a PvE server. I know, because I saw it with my own two eyes. Two priests battling each other.

They have a dual system, where you can challenge others to a dual, that was probably how they were pvping on a pve server.

*added info*

Please Note: On the PvE (Player vs. Environment) server PvP is only possible in duels and when both players have flagged themselves "PK". Also the rules below do not affect players on PvE servers. Was taken from the main site.

As someone previously mentioned:

Guild Wars.

There is ONLY PvP if you want to, it is a totally unessential part of the game story, & your character development.

Which suited me fine, when I spent years playing GW, as I'm not interested in PvP. :)
