Bad Karma. :-P
It doesn't run on Ubuntu (or even Linux (http://toolbar.netcraft.com/site_report?url=http://www.ubuntuforums.org) for that matter.. ) ;-)

At least it's Unix-based ;)
Take a look at this (http://toolbar.netcraft.com/site_report?url=http://www.ubuntulinux.org) if you want to feel better.
BTW the forums are a community project supported in part by donations and volunteer work, so I'm guessing they can't be too picky as to who they're hosted by.

If the host is giving them a deal because of thier status, then I suppose not. Otherwise, there are hundreds of Linux based hosting services out there.
Wnen I was looking for a hosting service, my first requirement was that they were Linux based. I came close to picking one that was running FreeBSD (because they were very inexpensive and still quite well regarded), but I wanted something I knew well since I run Linux myself (my 2nd requirement was that I have SSH access to my host.)
After that, it came down to IMAP (which they've since nixed, unfortunatly), price and track record.
But I digress.....

We don't run ubuntu because it was not an option with our provider, this has been discussed before. We ran FreeBSD until last weekend we switched to CentOS which is provider by our provider.
When we get our new server in the next 1-2 months which will be hosted with all the other ubuntu sites it will most likely be running Ubuntu.
It does't really matter what os it runs in the long run. No discounts from our provider either..
