View Full Version : [ubuntu] Anything similar to Alcohol 120?

July 14th, 2009, 03:30 AM
Well, I'm trying to burn some CDs but have protection on them and the way I got around it the first was was Alcohol 120%

But, WINE doesn't support Alcohol 120%. So, Is there a program similar or am I SOL?

I believe Ubuntu itself can mount ISO images. If that doesn't work, try gIsoMount. I haven't tried it, but it's in Add/Remove.

I believe that function would be best suited for Virtualbox and an XP virtual machine.

I am not aware of any programs to rip/burn/mount CDs with copy-protection on them in ubuntu.

AcetonISo (http://www.acetoneteam.org/)can do that i guess,
but for mounting maybe libdvdcss2 will be enuogh, from Medibuntu (http://www.medibuntu.org/) repos.

According to WineHQ, Poweriso is working perfectly (though the results are very old), and I've used poweriso in the past in windows. It'll work out well for you.

The website for AcetoneISO says that it won't support copy protection.

I've had lots of success with k3b. You can try that. What kind of CD's are you trying to copy may I ask? (game, music, other?) That way it is easier to point you to a specific app since Alcohol 120% does many things and Linux in general takes a more of a 1 app per task approach.

Try k9copy. (needs libdvdcss2 I think).

Well, Mostly, I need to make copy of games that have the protection on them.

It;s the games that go "please insert disc to play"
