View Full Version : [all variants] Looking For: Thin Client solution w/ RDesktop

Hi Folks -

I have a potential need to implement a thin client solution, and would like to use as many of our existing desktops as possible.

My thought was to use a very stripped down, locally-installed Ubuntu installation. This installation would have a single purpose in life -- to use RDesktop to connect to our Windows Terminal Services 2008 environment. We wouldn't need (or even want) things like games, OpenOffice, a web browser, etc. installed.

I did some homework on the Linux Terminal Server Project, but it seems like that's more for using Ubuntu as the back-end server. I'm just looking for something to replace Windows on the local desktops.

There is a product called 2X (http://www.2x.com/) that does pretty much what I'm looking for, but I've GOT to think Ubuntu (or some other distro, perhaps?) can do what we need for no cost.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Craig

Debian net install disk, and dont select any packages during install. you will literally have a base system.

Will pull this down now and try. Thanks for the tip -- I will report back once I've tested it.

Thanks again for the quick reply!
