I am new to ubuntu and the only problem I am having at this time is the shutdown screen is doing a bit of weird things , first note I am running 8.04 LTS on a dell mini 9 , standard kernel no modifications , upon shutting down at times it shows the ubuntu logo and shutdown bar and at other times it shows half of the logo and bar ( REAL BIG ) and other times the screen goes weird ( 1/2 screen somtimes all screen somtimes ) or just goes black or flashes white , I have checked the grub file and also reinstalled the usplash , it will work once or twice after this but never 3 or four times the same way , any ideas ?? if it would just go black and shutdown , I could live with that , shutdown itself has not been an issue though

Sounds like X. In a console, type

sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Copy and paste that here.

I'm triple-booting XP Pro SP3, Jaunty full version, and Puppy Linux on an Acer Aspire One AOA-150-1864 and it is performing slendidly

I see others having problems with the UNR also

Just a bit more info , it seems that during boot up and I get MBR top left of screen there is no error during shutdown , i.e. turn on pc , dell boot screen ok , ( MBR ) ubuntu boot screen ok , login sound ok , shutdown , ok ,

during the third or fourth boot there is no MBR displayed and no login sound , it is after this boot I get my error , shut down seems to work properly though even when I just leave scrambled screen , only once have I needed to shutdown with the power button ( 5 sec ) and this might be because I didnt want to wait long enough ,

everything else functions as it should , lacking the modem from sprint they claim works out of the box but this is another issue all together , another time possibly

Thanks for all your help again
