I recently built a cheap atom system to run as a home server. I installed Ubuntu server without a hitch and it runs flawlessly. The One thing that I have noticed though, is that it goes to "sleep" after about a half hour of being idle (ie: no user input). The system is currently connected to my network via wireless, and whenever it goes to sleep, it seems to lose it's connection. With this, I have to bring the interface back up, and reconnect. So I guess my question is two-fold, how can I prevent my system from going to sleep like this, and do you have any ideas as to why I might be losing my connection? I can upload any logs, config files, or other info as needed.

Not too sure about connection loss but you should be able to prevent the sytem from going to sleep from the power management preferences. (Not sure if server is that different from desktop version tho)

That is weird. I run 8.10 Server and it's never gone to sleep or such. Have you checked the BIOS?

@ekeluo, server lacks the x server thus no GUI, I thought that there may be some kind of power management options in server but I'm unsure of where it is located,

@wojox, I hadnt thought about the bios, I'll take a peek there

Hi,

I could never figure out how to stop a wireless connection form dropping.
I had to use wired connection for the server and moved the server close to the phone point and ADSL router in order to allow the webserver to access to be accessible without dropping off..
