hey all
is there any program equivalent to adobe after effects?
I"ve heard of jahshaku and cinelerra, but I haven't had any luck with installing them in jaunty.
any help would be awesome

I'd look for some help installing them. not sure if this is the right form for the questions though.
although it hasn't been tested yet, you can try to install CS4 with WINE (http://www.winehq.org/)

Sorry, never heard of jahshaku or cinelerra :-(
You won't find something as userfriendly and well documented as After Effect for Linux and open sourced. Although Blender is something completely different, you might want to check it out. It depends on what you want to create.

cs4 has been working great so far. photoshop,dreamweaver, flash why not aftereffects?
