Hello everyone,

Quick question and then I am going to go to bed. I don't know how to make screen shots (maybe not the correct name). You know, those neat little pictures of what is on screen. Used a lot when working in this forum to show Gurus what is happening on their computer. Some day having the knowledge to post one will be helpful when I'm stuck and working with someone in our Forums.

Thank you

Press Prt Scr key or install scrot ( better than the default one ).

I use KSnapshot at Applications-->Graphics-->KSnapshot,go to Applications->Add & Remove if you don't have it.

The sweetest way is through command line. Install scrot [if it's available in the repo] and then set your delay as much as you want and you can even view the countdown in terminal. ;)

The Gimp can also take screenshots - you can set a timer for it, and/or set it to screenshot only the active window.

The simplest method is by pressing Print Screen on your keyboard.

If you want to take a screenshot of just the active window, use Alt-PrintScreen.

As a point of clarification, scrot is a command-line tool that is still available and in the repo's:

http://linuxbrit.co.uk/scrot/

Shutter used to be called Gscrot:

BTW, I don't mean to correct unnecessarily, but some people desire a command-line tool, and scrot is one to consider.

Thank you everyone. I'll be investigating all of these!

Another question; To insert the screenshot into the thread as a reply, do you just copy and paste? Or is there a quicker tool to do this?

Thank you

Just click on the Manage Attachments button towards the bottom of the reply page. Also I recommend just using Applications > Accessories > Take Screenshot as someone else said. It's comes with Ubuntu so you don't need to install anything else. And the Print Screen button on your keyboard acts as a shortcut to bring up this app. :D

My first impression/thought of your post is where did you get that exquisite wallpaper and how can I replicate it?

That particular one is here:

and there are some more beautiful images in this 'photography' section.
