Is it permitted to use the Bitstream Vera font in an image, and then license that image under a GPL v.2/CC-BY-SA dual license?

I just want to make sure that I'm perfectly clear on this very blurry legal issue.

You can use even proprietary fonts in an image and Creative Commons license it. Really it doesn't matter which font you use. Actually giving away the TTF or similar would be a different thing.

Ah, thanks. :)

What about the GPL?

Think about publishing something written with MS Word, for instance (as an example of a proprietary program). While you aren't allowed to distribute the program or fonts, the actual creative work you produce is of your own design and therefore under your copyright. However you wish to license your copyrighted work is up to you.

Thank you both very much for the information. :)
