I downloaded the PPC version of Ubuntu 9.04 and installed on my iMac 20" G5.

The internal disk has two additional partitions (I used disk utility to shrink the Macintosh HD partition).

One partition is for swap and the other for the newworld boot loader.

An external USB drive has three partitions '/', '/usr', '/home'.

I successfully installed ubuntu and yaboot comes up the three options etc.

BUT...

When I select to boot from linux (option l) and then press return at the kernel start stage...I can see what should be the start up screen for ubuntu but it is distorted, the colours are all out of sync and I can't make out the progress line.

Once the start up has finished the logon screen appears and all is ok. The desktop is fine once I have logged in.

Does anyone know how to fix the garbled startup screen please?

I had the same problem with my dell. It is like a fuzzy color?
I ended up ordering the free cd from shipit and it took care of that problem. Also got free stickers. I tried to re-burn the iso I originally down loaded but that didn't work either. Order the cd.
