When a person farts, the hot air is sucked up by the computer (if it's running Ubuntu), and sent to the Ubuntu Forums. vBulletin then uses a complex algorithm to figure out how many beans you've eaten that day by reverse engineering the fart. After that, they are added to your total bean count.

What of the extra hot-air, you ask? Why, it is distilled into a liquid and fed into Mark Shuttleworth's army of zombie cyborgs that run Ubuntu, so that he can take over the world's operating system marketshare.

Where can you find the list of bean rankings, though? Like when you have more than 5 beans you get "First 5 cups of Ubuntu".

There isn't a listing. The bean Images and user titles exsist only for fun, and the mods say that they change them from time to time.

Have a look here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=239560).

Only admins can change the ranks. I think they're probably about due for a change... /me passes the message along ;)

Yes, one bean is one thread or post. And remmember kids!, the higher your beancount is, the bigger your courage is!

It's not a rank, it is just a fun thing, the images have nothing to do with rank.

I don't understand why posting in the Community Cafe doesn't count towards beans. Many a post in the T&E are simple responses like "+1" or some other nondescript post, for which a bean is issued. It's been my experience, that information shared in the Cafe is often as or more relevant to members, than what members posts in the T&E.

If members are participating on the forums, I think they should be included in the fun. If the beans are truly "just for fun", then all members should be permitted to participate no matter what section they post in. Many members spent quite a bit of time in the Cafe and enjoy the experience of interacting with other members.

Perhaps an extremely valuable experience for new members. As it provides them with an opportunity to meet other members, make friends and exchange information/life experiences. They learn that being a member of the forums isn't just about an OS, but also about the individuals that enjoy and use the OS.

Excluding them just doesn't seem right. I'd like to suggest (if possible) that beans be issued to any member that posts in any section of the forums. Lets make it fun for everyone, regardless of which section of the forums they participate in.

just my $0.02
