Ano na balita sa Bayanihan Linux? Meron bang bagong development? have been wondering because its a Distro we can probably call our own, but it doesnt seem to be getting off the ground. O kulang lang ako sa balita.

The latest release as per Bayanihan website (http://bayanihan.gov.ph/) is Bayanihan 5 Desktop which was released last April. And yes, I think it's not getting enough attention.

wala akong hinanakit sa gobs pero sa money management nila daming waste kaya me as a tax payer natural lang cguro na magreklamo sa mga pamamalakad nila. we always pray na sana uunlad ang ating bansa we ask God for the solution but the solution is within our reach, sinagot na nag-bulagbulagan lang tayo..
well the best thing to do cguro para marinig tayo ng gobs ay magingay(wak rally ha) in any form: print media, sea, air and land.

From what we can see government support in ICT is almost entirely profit motivated and IT infrastructure development related.
It always has to be like that:
NBN-ZTE
Election Automation

Bayanihan is a project of ASTI and falls under the DOST. Therefore, we can safely say that Bayanihan is developed with public funds and most likely have a budget allocation for it (developers, equipment, etc.).
Therefore, it follows that you can scrutinize Bayanihan as a project and if its succeeding with its defined goals or not. Take note of "defined goals".

I hope you are not generalizing government and its agencies, considering I used to work for government and my wife is still with a government corporation. Public service is not an easy thing to do.

Someone told me once of the difference between public servants and politicians.
Public service is noble for those who are serving.
I admire public servants.
Politicians are an altogether different species.
I am generalizing about politicians and how politicians use genuine public servants.

So with all these, safe bang sabihin na commercially-driven ang government and public..?
AT isa pa, nakukuha naman ng libre sa piratahan (I myself was also once a user of Windows XP Pirated Edition sa bahay, only to use the screen reader that would have the same amount ng PC ko kasama ang price ng original na OS at Office ng MS..)...
For me I think kailangan lang talaga ng awareness ng public about what Open Source systems, in this case Bayanihan to have more influence sa public para lang sumunod ang government offices and institutions.
:lolflag:

So with all these, safe bang sabihin na commercially-driven ang government and public..?
The government is by far the largest public corporation with the general taxpaying public as well as voting public as the stockholders and taxes as its primary revenue. So yes it is commercially driven. Otherwise it would not be a government but a charitable institution.
For me I think kailangan lang talaga ng awareness ng public about what Open Source systems

That would still depend on the public. You have to give them a reason why they should use Open source. Ok its free, can it run Crysis? :lolflag:
I try to do my part in informing others by blogging pero, as I progress in my experience I honestly can say that some things are just harder to do in GNU/Linux (but of course GNU/Linux/FOSS is getting better everyday).
malamang the government could think of something to initiate para maka-generate ng funds through Open Source...
Parang martilyo ulit. May martilyo kang libre. Pwede mong ipamigay pwede mong ibenta. So anong gagawin mo?
1. Government - implementation and technical support
2. Education - implementation and technical support

Actually, Bayanihan 2.[something] yung first GNU/Linux box ko... galing kami sa ASTII sometime 2004~2005 during our field trip and possibly the first UP IT Fair...?!?
IIRC, ang kulit ko nun... tinatanong ko... "bat pinalitan ung name? bat nio binebenta?"... :P ...aware lang kasi ako sa Red Hat that time and I was told na free ang GNU/Linux. Wala pa akong idea about 'distro' and 'selling free software'. :D
Although exposed kami sa Red Hat from our school, di ko masyado masundan kasi ibang iba nga sa Windows at limited time lang access namin sa lab. Then naging at home naman ako sa Bayanihan until a friend's sister gave me a copy of Warthy Warthog na pinakatago-tago pa ata sa baul :D -- yes, the first Ubuntu release. Fell in love ever since. =P~

No, seeders, just download the direct link, it will be downloaded 30mins even on a slow smart bro plug it.
Even though Ubuntu is much better of a system, i think Bayanihan might go far in the local scene if we can give them a hand than the loco.
Pros:
They have a HQ at ASTI
Dedicated website and Forums
Sponsor Logo of DOST and ASTI
Merchandises are available.
unlinke the ubuntu ph loco which looks only exist online.
Cons:
Ubuntu is still way better than Bayanihan in system terms and software/documents availability.

Best of both worlds. Ubuntu inside, Bayanihan outside!
Edited the menu, splash, usplash and background.

Ano na balita sa Bayanihan Linux? Meron bang bagong development? have been wondering because its a Distro we can probably call our own, but it doesnt seem to be getting off the ground.
Kahel OS Desktop? It's making waves.
