View Full Version : [ubuntu] Question about not being able to play DVD

Previously, with the Ubuntu Distribution before 9.04, I could see a movie on a DVD or even rip a DVD using Thoggen. Now, I can't view a movie or even begin ripping a DVD using Thoggen. My first guess is that the DVD drive has gone bad, even though it reads the file structure of a DVD, meaning the typical three folders and all the files in the Video folder. However, using Movie Player or VLC to play the DVD, I get an error message: "Could not read from resource." Same error message from Thoggen. I don't know how to test the DVD player, so, if it has gone bad, then my only choice is to replace it. Does anyone have any other ideas in case the problem is elsewhere?

Hi george3095.

Do you have
libdvdcss2 installed?
