Hi, I contacted the tech support or godaddys reps.

I just transered a domain name to them. I was told I would get a free year with my purchase.

So I paid for 2 years. It's 6.99 a year so I paid a little more then 13.98. The reason you have to add the .40 cents for the ICANN fee which makes it to 14.38 which is what I paid.

I now got the domain transferred after taking 12 days.

Now the domain I am transfering was register with a different company not godaddy. I regsitered it with tem on sep 3rd 2007. I paid 2 years.

so it expires on sep 3rd 2009. So I just transfered it now to godaddy.

Now I see my expiration date to be sep 3rd 2011. that means I got 2 years.

I don't see where I get 3 years. I was supposed to get 1 year free for transferring the domain name to them.

I been talking to the support of godaddy for 2 weeks now. They kept saying that they added 1 free year.

Yet I explained that I paid for 2 years and the whois information shows it will expire in 2 years. So where is this free year if I paid for 2 years and I am getting the domain name for 2 years.

Is what I am thinking correct? shouldn't my domain expire on sep 3rd of 2012?

I want to know because I think I am getting played around with. I am also thinking maybe I am not understanding what they charge.

Like is it 6.99 once for just transferring the domain name then another 6.99 to add a year to the domain name?

I got fed up asking godaddy support. THe reason is that we go around in circles. They keep telling me that they added the year.

I even asked if it's 6.99 just to transfer the domain name. They told me that it's 6.99 to transfer the domain and have it for a year. Then for additional years you would times 6.99 by how many years you want it.

So in short I think I am not getting a free one year. Even though they have a promotion saying transfer your domain name and get 1 whole free year with the domain name.

Am I right?

Have you got: Hosting and Domain with GoDaddy?

it might be :
You bought 2 years registration
You were given 1 years free Hosting.

Check your "Domain Manager" page in GoDaddy look for "Related Products" and see what it says for Hosting. Also check all the info for the domain registration there.

nope, I host my own server at my house. I just buy the domain names.

with godaddy I have 2 domain names well 1 that was registered with them from the start and 1 that was register with someone else which I now wanted to transfer it to godaddy.

so this is just for transfering 1 domain name for 2 years paid to godaddy.

I see now I get only 2 years yet I was told I get 1 year free for every domain name I transfer to them.

Their is a difference between registering the domain name with godaddy and transfering the name to godaddy.

Godaddy gives you 1 year free when you tranfer a domain name to them. It dosen't count if you are registering the domain name with them.

The transfer means that I have the domain name register with a different provide. I had to give permission to release the domain name to godaddy.

it's a long process and a long story.

So to make it short. I am transfering a domain name from company lanechange.net

they hosted my domain name for 2 years from 2007 to 2009 on sep 3rd.

Now on july 1st. That is when I transfered the domain name to godaddy.

I am supposed to get 1 free year with the purchase. So I paid for 2 years.

so that means 2010 and 2011. Now I see my domain expire on 2011.

So I see no free 1 year. Otherwise my domain name should expire on sep 3rd 2012.

This is what I am thinking. Yet the tech support after talking 2 weeks with them keep saying that they gave me the free year.

Yet I don't see where this free year exists.

I just checked if I got a free 1 year hosting. I got nothing. I checked. I just got the domain name transfered to godaddy and have 2 years on it.

This means I paid for 2 years for the domain and I am just getting 2 years when I should get 1 year free according to their promotion about transferring domain names.

today was the last e-mail I sent and got a reply. The lady told me "oh... your domain expired in 2009."

So I am not getting anywehere with them. I explained it just how I explained it here. I even gave them the figures and I used paypal to pay for the services. So I do have proof I paid for 2 years.

to your question I did the same thing as you did and I just did whois and my came back: Expires on: 08-Jul-11

if you think about your getting 2 1/2 years of domain registration.

what? no I am trying to get 2 years of service for the domain name plus 1 free year. So total of 3 years.

2 years paid for. my domain name is registered on sep 3rd 2007. So that is my domain service year.

every sep 3rd will start a whole new year.

So my domain name should expire on 2012 but it's going to expire 2011. Which is one year short. Since I paid for 2 years and supposed to get 1 free year.

go on godaddy.com. Click the tab that says domain names. you should see a tab that says transfer domain name.

The trasnfer domain name menu should show prices. which show 6.99 a year for each domain name transfered plus 1 free year.

so you get 1 free year for each domain you transfered to godaddy.

so if you paid for 2 years you should get 3 years. If you paid for 5 years you should get 6 years.

yet I don't see my free year.

I know but your only getting 2 1/2 years of registration they are taking that free year for this year think about it.

like I said I did the same thing as you did your only going to get 2 1/2 years.

I dont know what your thinking that you was going to get 3 years of registration when its only 2 1/2 years.

I own over 20 domains with GoDaddy. Excellent service. You are either not getting your point across, or you are not understanding what they are offering you. Call support and eplain, and ask to speak to a manager (nicely). Have them explain exactly what you were offered and what you got. It's possible that your extension may no show up until it renews. I have transfered client domains with time left on their contracts with the old registrar and they have extended the new registration so that the client did not lose any time. I think you are not understanding what is happening here.

ok, I will give them a call.

Just would like you to take a look at this : http://www.godaddy.com/domains/transfers.aspx?ci=8992

and explain to me what you think the offer is.

From my understanding you get 1 year free plus whatever remaining time you have with the previous service provider all for free.

I am not complaining about the service. Just trying to figure out what I am supposed to get.

if you read little more on godaddy's site here what I found:

"FREE one-year extension included. Plus all the time remaining on your existing registration.†"

hockey97

ya, so what does that mean? does it mean I get 1 year free for my domain name?

or does it mean that the time I have left with that previous provider? Like I get 1 year free to transfer that 1 year from the previous provider?

Basically what do they mean by 1 year free extension? The other part I understood. Since I transfered the domain name july 1st. and it expires sep 3rd I got that time free. They are not charging for that.

I am just confused on what they mean by 1 year free extension. I paid for 2 years and I am getting the domain for 2 years.

update:**

OK, I gave them a call. I also got an e-mail response.

the e-mail says this:

Thank you for contacting Online Support. $6.99 includes the domain transfer and an extra year of registration. You pay $7.19 total after the $.20 ICANN fee. Once the domain is successfully transferred over, we will add a year onto your current registration.

On the phone. I had a similar explanation. I am supposed to get 1 free year. I paid for 2 years so I should get a total of 3 years.

On the phone They told me they added in the 1 year. I then asked to talk to the manager. I talked with him and he transferred me to some technial guy.

The guys said that he is seeing 2011 and it should of been 2012. So he just made the changes. He told me to wait 48 hours the most and then check the whois. If it's still not corrected. Then he wanted me to call them back.

just wanted to give an update on the situation.

It's pretty clear to me. You get whatever time you have left on your old registrar PLUS one year.

ok, that is exactly what I am thinking. I should have one year free.

I paid for 2 years and I am only getting 2 years service for the domain name. So where is this free year?

it's 6.99 to transfer the domain name for 1 year. I wanted 2 years paid.

so I paid 6.99 and another 6.99 making it paid for 2 years. Now where does this free year come into play?

I was told that 6.99 is the fee to transfer the domain name to godaddy and it's a full 1 year paid for. I paid it 2 times meaning I can have the domain name for 2 years.

Yet the promotions says you get 1 extra year free. Yet I see no free year.

I paid for 2 years and I got 2 years. So where is this free year?

dude just do what tim told you do earlier and call up to godaddy and ask for a supervisor or manager on duty and ask them nicely about this whole thing and come back and tell us about it. because obviously you didnt read godaddy's site about it.

I called over to godaddy spoke to supervisor and he was telling me the same information to you there hockey97 and I told the supervisor that information on the website was misleading and it needs to be little bit more clear on what they have promoting on there site. so I asked the supervisor if he could send something in to the marketing personal and ask them if they could be little bit more clear on there promotion on there websites. then Supervisor said he would send something over to the marketing personal about this issue.

Thanks kustomjs. I already gave a call to them. I even sent more e-mails to their tech team.

I had different answers from different people. Some were the same.

Thanks. I hope they do clarify their marketing.
