I have a HP Pavillion dv9000 laptop, for some odd reason, it won't boot or shutdown Ubuntu unless it is plugged into the electrical mains. It just black screens, i could leave it there for a week and it wouldn't load any more.
Any way to stop this happening, what use is a laptop if i have to plug in anyway?

Also, if i just boot up and then unplug, it will continue working flawlessly until i come to shut it down.

This only happens in Ubuntu, not Vista.
