If you've installed the VirtualBox Addons or whatever they call it (equivalent to vmware's guest addons) then a default guest install of ubuntu should dynamically change screen resolution when you resize the window.

Seeing as we're on the topic of virtualbox and the new version was released not too long ago with some form of hardware acceleration... Does that mean I can use compiz (or another compositor) in Ubuntu in a vm?

There is a check box to 'enable 3d acceleration'

Using VirtualBox 3.0.4 and I have a XP Host with Ubuntu 9.04 guest.. I have no option in VirtualBox for "Devices" -> "Install Guest Addons"

NeverMind,.. I figured out that you have to boot the guest OS first, then in the Guest OS VirtualBox window Install Addons in in there.
