Hello fellow Ubuntu-ers,

I currently have an AMD 3800+ X2 w/ 1 gig. I'm upgrading an Intel i7 system. I'm not planning on swapping out the hard drives. What's the best way to do this? Do I need to do a reinstall? The CPU, MOBO and RAM are being replaced

Thanks all.

Ubuntu is very good about auto-detecting hardware. I'm not experienced with the i7, but as far as I know everything should work. I once moved a hard drive with an Ubuntu install on it to a completely new system and everything worked right out of the box that would from a brand new install. I only needed to install drivers for my new graphics card.

Very cool. Good to know. Would you suggest recompiling the kernel? Would I gain any CPU specific performance from that?

EDIT: So I went and did the upgrade. Everything went smoothly, no problems. :)
