View Full Version : [ubuntu] Installation Help - BIOS problems

July 8th, 2009, 12:14 AM

I'm completely new to the ubuntu community and when I try to install ubuntu after choosing a language a message appears that says:

Your BIOS does not provide ACPI_PS objects in a way that Linux understands. Please report this to the Linux ACPI maintainers and complain to your BIOS vendor.

And a command line appears, which I know nothing about. So my questions are

Is there any way to get around this and still have ubuntu work correctly?
Is there any way to modify/upgrade my BIOS or Linux in such a way that ubuntu will run?
What ACPI_PS objects and what questions/comments should I have when contacting my BIOS vendor?

I have an ASUS computer with an AMD athlon 64 bit processor. If any other specs are needed just let me know. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Ok so I've been doing some research and here's some places to start for anyone else having similar problems:

The specifications for ACPI are quite large, so it will probably take me a while to get through, but it sounds like it might be possible to update the OS kernel to get things working.
