I recently bought a new acer 4935 Laptop I managed to solve most of the issues so far except the built in microphone which I can't get it to work and the side panel which controls the volume and DVD basic functions.

You might want to find out if you have the Microphone enabled. You should have it listed in the Sound window if it exists. You can find that in:

System -> Preferences -> Sound

The bottom window should list the various devices. Something should say "Capture" or "Microphone" there.

I haven't tested the Remix version of Ubuntu for notebooks, but it might possibly have the Microphone disabled by default for saving battery power.

sorry it took me so long to reply microphone is still no working. The side panel I will look into it as soon as the microphone problem is solved.
